Asheville, NC, Guide and Information

Welcome to Asheville
You expect a lot from a city nicknamed “The Paris of the South,” and Asheville, North Carolina, lives up to it in every way. Overflowing with artists and innovators, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains, overlooking the French Broad River, Asheville cuts a fine figure in the landscape and in the hearts and minds of its fans. Whether visitors have been there a dozen times or if they’re planning their first trip, thoughts of strolling the city’s streets delivers a jolt of anticipation.
Many travelers who come to Asheville think they’ll have to choose between the great outdoors, the great restaurants and breweries, and the great art and music scene. They’re mistaken.
The North Carolina Arboretum and Western North Carolina Nature Center put wildlife encounters and miles of hiking trails just minutes from downtown (and if you want big adventure, Great Smoky Mountains National Park is only 90 minutes away).
Dinner at Rhubarb and Corner Kitchen delivers big flavor of innovative chefs, but barbecue from Buxton Hall Barbecue, sushi from Wasabi, or elevated pub grub from Pack’s Tavern or a burger and brew from Lexington Avenue Brewery satisfies. And speaking of satisfaction, the city’s brewery scene is one of the best in the nation, and a visit to Highlands Brewing Company, Burial Beer or Hi-Wire will show you exactly why, but you can find excellent cocktails and great wine – thanks to Santé Wine Bar and restaurants like Chestnut – all over town.
On every street you’ll find buskers and bands, art galleries and studios, and more evidence of the city’s creative spirit. And if that’s not enough, catch a show at Orange Peel, head into the Asheville Art Museum or explore the River Arts District.
Fall is prime time here, as the mountains show their best colors, and a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway is a must, though the view from a hot air balloon with Asheville Adventures puts the mountains in perspective. But it’s not the only color show: spring’s wildflowers put on a great show as well.
So, when should you visit Asheville? The answer’s always now. No matter what you want to do, what you want to eat or how you want to relax, it’s waiting in Asheville. In just a weekend you can get a taste of this town, but it’s only a big enough bite to hold you over until your next visit (which we know you’ll be planning soon).
