Vail-Beaver Creek, CO, Guide and Information

Welcome to Vail-Beaver Creek
The Vail Valley is home to world class ski areas, over a dozen golf courses, endless miles of hiking and biking trails, excellent fly-fishing, and every imaginable outdoor activity. It is also home to the Bravo! classical music festival, the Vail Jazz festival, the Vail Dance festival, the Vilar Performing Arts Center, art galleries, movie theaters, the world’s highest botanical garden, and a nonstop variety of cultural events. Vail may be known for its five star hotels and gourmet restaurants, but not far away lies the historic Camp Hale - home of the famed 10th Mountain Division. Family-oriented Beaver Creek, famous for its covered escalators and afternoon cookies, also hosts the top ski racers in the world on its Birds of Prey World Cup Course. While ski culture is at the heart of the Vail Valley, there is truly something for everybody, at all times of the year.

Vail’s Vibrant Dining Scene
An old college friend recently posted a link on my Facebook timeline that featured a story about how Vail, Colorado had been cited among the country’s best ‘small town food scenes’ by USA Today. Huh, I thought, in a most affirming manner. (Not to be confused with huh?) I realized that I concurred with that distinction, and so I’ve decided to share some of my favorite Vail dining experiences with my Discovery Map readers.
As a resident of Colorado for over twenty years, I have had many opportunities to go to Vail–typically at least once a year for at least a few days and then sometimes also just passing through. Each time I have enjoyed exceptional dining experiences, often in the company of my partner, Steve, who happens to be the general manager of a big lodge in Colorado. Between the two of us, we have lots of street cred. So much so, in fact, that I would go so far as to say that the combinations of these culinary adventures have surpassed ones we’ve had in Aspen. (Note, however, that that’s not to say that Aspen doesn’t also rank high on foodies’ hit lists.)
What to Do in Vail and Beaver Creek, Colorado
If someone says “Vail,” you probably think of luxurious ski trips to the Colorado mountains. However, the Vail Valley and the alpine village of Beaver Creek offer so much more than just skiing — though your guess about the luxury would probably be spot-on. Beaver Creek is one of the more posh locales in the region. But, if you’re looking for something to do in the area, you don’t necessarily need to be looking for a luxurious experience in order to have fun. There are tons of ways to play here, no matter the season and no matter your budget.
If you’re not visiting in the late fall, winter or early spring, you’ll find the various types of trails around Vail Valley are mostly open, snow-free and ready for business. You can find a range of hiking opportunities, whether you want a short, one-mile trek or a longer, more challenging journey. Beyond hiking, you can also enjoy mountain biking and e-biking. Biking not your thing? You can hop aboard a different style of steed, with horseback riding opportunities around the area.
