Get to know the Discovery Map team: Katie Whiteley

Katie is the Discovery Map Marketing Manager.

She grew up in Virginia, but now calls Vermont home.

"I spent my childhood in Culpeper, Virginia, about an hour outside of Washington, DC. When I was about 12, my parents and I moved to the wild and beautiful Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. I attended middle school and highschool in this most rural part of the state.

In 2010, after graduating from The University of Vermont (and right into a recession), I headed west to Mammoth Lakes, CA to work as a ski coach. After a few years I moved to resort operations and marketing for a local vacation rental company.

In 2018 I moved back to Vermont when my now husband took a job as a coach for the prestigious Burke Mountain Academy, which has matriculated such ski legends as Shane McConkey and Micaela Schiffrin. I briefly worked as the Events and Marketing Coordinator for the Kingdom Trails Network before taking the Marketing Manager position here at Discovery Map.

My husband and I live in East Burke with our 2 dogs and a baby on the way! We are avid skiers, mountain bikers, and outdoor enthusiasts."

Katie's also done some traveling! Here are her 3 favorite spots:

1.Yosemite, CA

"While we lived in Mammoth Lakes, we often took day trips to Yosemite national park. Hiking in Yosemite is the closest I have felt to a religious experience. Although sometimes the valley floor is crowded with the many visitors to the park, once you get up into the mountains you are surrounded by the most breathtaking and awe-inspiring views."

2. Caye Caulker, Belize

"While attending UVM, I participated in a semester abroad in Belize. We were based out of San Ignacio, which is on the Guatemalan border. While the whole country is gorgeous and full of interesting people and biodiversity, the islands or “cayes” have truly the most amazing beaches and water activities."

3. Los Cabos, MX

"While living in California, our go-to vacation destination was Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. It’s affordable, fun and the food is amazing. We hope to return and explore Todo Santos and maybe go SCUBA diving someday! Now that we live on the East Coast, however, we also need to check out Cancun."
