Greenville, South Carolina, prides itself on its strong arts presence throughout the city. Whether it’s an actual art installation or just the local architecture, Greenville has more than a few sights to behold.
1. Meet the Animals at the Greenville Zoo
Start a morning off with a trip to the Greenville Zoo! This is especially fun if you’re traveling with children, but adults too can enjoy a stroll through the zoo. If you’re traveling with a true animal lover, Greenville offers a once-in-a-lifetime overnight experience!
2. Burn Rubber at the BMW Performance Center
If you’re a fan of the Ultimate Driving Machine, you won’t want to pass up an experience at the BMW Performance Center. Whether you want to appreciate the machines or get behind the wheel, this is an experience sure to get your adrenaline pumping.
3. Take an Art Walk
We weren’t kidding when we said Greenville was an artsy town! As you walk through the city, keep your eyes peeled for the public art displays. In general, Greenville’s Public Art Walk is a great place to be for art lovers.
4. Enjoy a Walk Near the Reedy River
If you make one stop on this list, Falls Park makes a strong case to be that choice. Especially if visiting during the fall, the natural beauty here is spectacular. This is a hub for the city, with picturesque trails leading you to Main Street to parous through rows of local shops and restaurants.
5. Find All the (Bronze) Mice on Main Street
If you want to participate in something unique, try your hand at finding all the mice on Main Street! There are nine bronze mice for you to find and clues to help you along the way!
6. Take a tour of the Greenville County Museum of Art
Widely considered the premier art museum in the southern United States, the GCMA is genuinely breathtaking. With rotating pieces, you’ll always see something new and interesting. A trip to the GCMA is a trip through history, with historic pieces illustrating the history of the southern United States.
7. Enjoy an Afternoon Stroll at the Lake Conestee Nature Preserve
The Reedy River makes another appearance on this list, running near the 400-acre Lake Conestee Nature Preserve. There are roughly 13 miles of trails here, with 6 miles of them paved and one mile being a boardwalk, making it accessible for all.
8. Learn about the History of South Carolina
If you’re interested in local history, the Upcountry History Museum displays the local history of the last 300 years or so. You’ll find a rotating list of displays, with nationally touring art pieces making appearances.
9. Take a Jog on the Swamp Rabbit Trail
For the health-conscious, this 20-mile trail provides plenty of opportunities for exercise. If you just love nature, you’ll have a blast walking any part of the Swamp Rabbit Trail.
