Portland, Maine, may be known as the culinary capital of the state, but you can still find lots to love (and devour) in Kennebunk and Wells, too. Here are some of our favorite spots to grab some of Maine’s best bites, brews and a bevy of Maine-made products.

This downtown restaurant is about as local as it gets, with a focus on ultra-seasonal cuisine and a menu that changes very regularly. With European inspiration, but still an accessible atmosphere, 50 Local is a can’t-miss in Kennebunk. Expect menu items like handmade gnocchi, Maine oysters on the half shell and house-made ice creams.

Batson River Brewing & Distilling boasts multiple locations, with one in both Kennebunk and Wells. The Kennebunk outpost is a short walk from Kennebunkport’s Dock Square and serves seasonal menus, cocktails and craft beers. The Wells location, meanwhile, also houses an on-site brewery, which offers tours.

Why eat at a restaurant on dry land, when you can take to the waters? The Spirit of Massachusetts is a New England-built schooner that is now restored and docked in Kennebunk, hosting a restaurant and bar. Light bites are the focus, but there are also extra items available from an adjacent food truck. Think Maine seafood all the way.

This brew pub boasts Maine eats, Maine beers and Maine views. Grab a brew (or two) and sit down for some rib-sticking goodness, whether you go with an oversized burger, a seafood platter or one of the specialty sandwiches. If you have someone in your traveling party who isn’t terribly keen on Maine’s robust seafood scene, they’ll be glad to find lots of non-seafood options on this particular menu.
